El Calderon is a family owned and operated restaurant located in Mountain View, California, just south of Castro Street. Featuring authentic hard to find Salvadorian cuisine, owners Roberto and Lita Lopez have been serving specialty dishes from the same location since 1969. Their delightful and tasty recipes have been featured in Sunset Magazine and other publications.

This popular eatery serves Central American delicacies such as pollo encebollado, platanos, lengua en salsa y crema as well as all the Mexican staples including tamales and fajitas. A great way to sample the Salvadorian flavor is to order El Calderon's Salvadorian Dinner for Two. This dinner highlights typical Central American fare such as pupusas, yucca con chicharrones, refried beans, rice, guacamole salad, and includes dessert and coffee. For a traditional tropical beverage we invite you to try a Passion Fruit Guanabana or a Nutty Tamarindo served in a festive gourd, or choose from the assortment of cold Mexican or domestic beers.

El Calderon's menu also includes a variety of items to satisfy your taste for something "south of the border". The Chile Verde Burrito Deluxe is the ultimate burrito featuring a 12 inch tortilla folded around tender pork squares laced in a smooth green chile sauce. To taste a true masterpiece request a Tropical Tostada. This colorful platter features a medley of beef, chicken or bean topped by avocado, tomato, and fried plantains layered on a tortilla garnished with salsa and Salvadorian cream sauce.

For lunch we recommend Pupusas, our house specialty. These fresh homemade tortilla stuffed with cheese, pork, beans or a combination of any two are served with a side of curtido (pickled cabbage). For our vegetarian patrons, we offer a variety of menu choices. Lunch and dinner served daily.

Restaurant Hours: Monday through Friday 11:00 am - 1:45 pm,  5:00 pm - 8:45 pm,
Saturday dinner only 5:00 pm - 8:45 pm. Closed Sunday.
